What country eats the most ice cream in the world?
How much ice cream do you think is sold in the UK per year? Based on the weather, you would imagine it’s a fairly low number, but no! A few drops of rain don’t put us Brits off, we love our ice cream and aren’t fazed by the blustering winds and occasional frost… Take a look of our handy infographic below with some more amazing ice cream facts!
In 2016, £10.1million was spent by the UK on ice cream, which ranks us 5th in the world! Unsurprisingly, America spends $7.4million on ice cream but China scoops up a whopping $7.5million! This means a third of all ice cream that is bought globally is eaten in China alone and they even sold 5.9 billion, yes BILLION litres of ice cream in 2014. We think it’s safe to stay that they can officially be crowned the emperor of ice cream, averaging 4 litres per person a year.
With each country’s contribution to these truly tasty figures, global sales in 2014 totalled $50billion- that’s enough ice cream to fill 50,000 Olympic sized swimming pools! And with an average of 50 licks needed to eat an ice cream, that seems an Olympic amount of exercise to us!
